Construction Site Info – Ruka Village

The construction of the Break Sokos hotel has begun in Ruka. The construction work may cause noise disturbance to nearby accommodation facilities. The construction site area will be fenced off and will take up part of the parking area. Heavy traffic during the construction of the hotel will be concentrated on Hiihtokouluntie.

The foundation work of the hotel was completed in January 2026. The framework will be completed in 2026 and the construction is planned to be completed in autumn 2027.

The best place to park in Ruka village is the underground parking garage. The taxi rank will remain in its place opposite the Zone. A parking space has been reserved for buses at the Ruka Ski Stadium.

See below for updated information on potential impacts of the construction work.

Update 22 May 2025

Rukankyläntie closed 27 May at 05:00 until 12:00 (estimate)

Eltel will carry out a transformer installation lift next to the Arina hotel construction site, which will cause disruption to traffic to Ruka Village, the parking garage, Kumpare loading dock, as well as staff parking areas.

A crane truck will be positioned on Rukankyläntie, blocking the section between the Hiihtokoulu junction and the parking garage entrance for the duration of the lifting work.

The transformer installation will be carried out as efficiently as possible, and the work is estimated to be completed by 12:00 at the latest.

During the operation, a traffic controller will be present at the start of Rukankyläntie to guide vehicles into Ruka Village via Rukatunturintie. A temporary route through Ruka Village will be arranged to the Scandic roundabout, providing access to the conference centre parking area.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this operation.

Update 19 December, 2025

The construction site will be closed for the Christmas holiday from 22 December to 6 January.

Most of the work phases that cause the highest noise levels have now been completed. At the beginning of 2026, some drilling for pile foundations will still be carried out, which will generate noise. Noise-producing work will take place between 8:00 and 19:00. One building on the site still needs to be demolished; mechanical concrete crushing will be used during the demolition work.

Construction of the hotel foundations will begin on 7 January, after that the structural frame will get underway. The structural elements will be transported mainly via Hiihtokouluntie.

Update 6 December. 2025

The water tank and district heating modifications are now complete and the parking lot is in use for passenger cars. The hotel construction site fences will remain in place until 2027. Bus parking will continue at the stadium.

Update 5 September, 2025

Week 36/2025 (September 1–7, 2025)

Bus parking in front of the Conference Center is temporarily unavailable.
Due to modification and relocation work related to EVO’s district heating system, the large parking area in front of the Conference Center is currently not available for bus use.

Bus parking has been relocated to the Ruka Ski Stadium (address: Hiihtostadionintie 3a).

The map below shows the location of the new parking area as well as driving directions. It also includes the walking route from the Ski Stadium back to the village.

We apologize for any inconvenience the construction work may cause to our visitors.
