New Year's light ski show

The new year is celebrated in Ruka with a ski light show.

The light show starts at 23:55 on the front slopes of Ruka. The light parade can be viewed from the village of Ruka, near Restaurant Piste, and around Kaltiolampi.

Please note that it is not permitted your own fireworks in the Ruka village area! The area allowed for shooting off fireworks is located at the other end of Kaltiolampi, below the moguls and the aerials slopes. Using fireworks is allowed on 31.12. from 18:00 to 1.1. between 02:00 a.m.

Snow Racing on Ski Slopes

Snow racing on the slopes of Ruka, slopes numbers 5, 16 and 18, in the evenings from Saturday to Thursday from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. after the slopes have closed for skiers.

Snow racers are available at Piste Rental, prices starting from 17 €/3 hours. You'll need a valid ski pass or Gondola ticket for snow racing, 21 €/2 hours (7.30-9.30 PM).

Ruka-Kuusamo SkiBus, extra schedule for 31.12.

Ruka-Kuusamo SkiBus operates in Ruka area and from Ruka to Kuusamo during New Year according to regular schedules, which you can find on page Buses.

Additionally, the following extra services are available in the Ruka area on New Year's Eve, December 31st.

The bus stops and fares are the same as those for regular SkiBus services. In Ruka Village, the stop is located at the turnaround next to Kumpare Shopping Center (beside Stefan's Steakhouse).

Shooting fireworks

Shooting fireworks is allowed during New Year´s night, 31.12. from 6 pm until 1.1. at 2 am. Fireworks are not allowed in 300 meters from Ruka village. There is a fenced area at the southern end of Kaltiolampi pond reserved for fireworks.
