You might drive past Kuusamo centre, enclosed by Oulangantaipale and Kitkantie, when heading to Ruka, but we absolutely recommend getting to know what it has to offer.
A town centre with spectacular lakeside scenery and diverse services
Kuusamo centre is surrounded by bodies of water, and many of the area’s hiking, cycling and skiing trails and paths run along lakes or rivers. Compared to Ruka, the terrain is fairly even, so if you love cross country skiing, make sure you also try out the ski trail network in Kuusamo centre!
The heart of Kuusamo’s cultural offering is definitely Kuusamotalo, which also houses Kuusamo’s cinema with a whopping 520 seats. In the summer, popular tourist attractions include Kuusamo Outdoor Museum, the summer theatre and the history trail around the shores of Lake Kuusamojärvi.
Immediately when you arrive in Kuusamo centre, you will come face to face with Tourist Centre Karhuntassu. There you will find Kuusamo’s tourist information, a Metsähallitus service point and Hannu Hautala Nature Photography Centre, as well as a café, shop and free WiFi.
A new cultural centre is under construction in the premises of Karhuntassu and, as a result of that, tourism information can be found in temporary facilities in Kuusamo hall in 2022.

Thanks to tourism, Kuusamo’s services match the level of a significantly larger town or city, and they include two supermarkets and a selection of smaller brick-and-mortar shops.
Close to Kuusamo town centre you can also find Kuusamo airport and the experience hub of Holiday Club Kuusamon Tropiikki, which features a spa hotel, Angry Birds Activity Park, a bowling alley, an escape room, a golf course, disc golf courses, fantastic swimming opportunities and great ski trails and bike paths.
