Early winter magic in Ruka-Kuusamo
November in Ruka-Kuusamo is a fascinating turning point between seasons. The fells and forests already have a thin blanket of snow, the lakes are starting to freeze and the first signs of winter are visible everywhere in nature. Even though ice fishing awaits thicker ice and husky safaris and reindeer rides need a deeper layer of snow, there is still plenty to see and do in the area!
The early snow tracks of Ruka invite cross-country skiing, and the slopes offer a chance to enjoy the first runs of the season. The hiking trails of the national parks offer peaceful nature experiences, as frost-covered trees, freezing lakes and rivers, and the silent forest create an unforgettable atmosphere. Some of the cycling routes are also comfortably rideable with an e-fatbike, and the fresh early winter air makes outdoor activities especially refreshing.
Early winter is the perfect time to enjoy the peace of nature – the landscapes are already wintery, and there is plenty of room to breathe on the trails, tracks and fells.
