Construction Site Info – Ruka Village

Kuusamo Energy and Water Cooperative (EVO) will carry out pipeline and equipment relocations in summer 2025 due to the Arina hotel project under construction in Ruka Village. The work includes relocating the upper water reservoir as well as renewing and relocating water and district heating lines.

As a result of the relocation work, excavation and installation activities will take place in the red-marked areas shown on the map below. The construction site will affect traffic, parking, and water and district heating services.

The work will generate heavy truck traffic, and excavators will operate on weekdays from 07:00 to 19:00. The heaviest construction traffic will be concentrated in the large parking area in front of the conference center, which is already partially fenced off as a work zone.

The work will cause temporary traffic arrangements as well as heating and water outages. We will inform residents and visitors as early as possible – typically a couple of days in advance.

Update 5 September

Week 36 (September 1–7, 2025)

Bus parking in front of the Conference Center is temporarily unavailable.
Due to modification and relocation work related to EVO’s district heating system, the large parking area in front of the Conference Center is currently not available for bus use.

Bus parking has been relocated to the Ski Stadium (address: Hiihtostadionintie 3a).

The map below shows the location of the new parking area as well as driving directions. It also includes the walking route from the Ski Stadium back to the village.

Update 27 August
 
Week 35 (August 25–31, 2025)
EVO’s district heating modification and transfer works have continued during week 35 with trench backfilling. A few connections are still pending, with the next one scheduled for Thursday, August 28.

This connection work will cause a temporary interruption in district heating supply to the line serving East Ruka. Heating outage, Thursday, August 28 from 8:00 to approximately 16:00

Affected properties:
SKI INN Ruka Valley, Bistrontie 2
Base Eat & Heat, Top of Saarua
SKI INN Ruka Valley is equipped with hot water storage tanks, which should ensure sufficient hot water during the outage. Properties without storage tanks will not have hot water during the interruption, but cold water will remain available as usual.

Worksite traffic:
Worksite traffic at the Scandic Rukahovi conference center parking area will continue as currently arranged.

Week 36 (September 1–7, 2025)
During week 36, equipment related to the construction of a new hotel will begin arriving in Ruka village.
