Rukalodge – modern comfort in the best location in Ruka
Nestled right next to Ruka, surrounded by nature and a wide range of activities
Nature at Your Doorstep – and It Shows in Everything
Rukalodge’s location is a dream come true for outdoor enthusiasts. From the cabin yards you can easily access Ruka’s most popular trails, including the well‑loved, year-round Pyhän jyssäys trail, which starts just around the corner. In summer, trail runners and hikers head out straight from the doorstep, and in winter the same applies to snowshoeing. Cross-country ski trails and snowmobile routes are only a couple of hundred metres away.
Cyclists have discovered Rukalodge as well. Pyhän jyssäys is also a favourite among mountain bikers, and the grounds include both a bike wash and maintenance stands. This is no coincidence – cycling was taken into consideration already during the planning phase. “Cycling tourism is visible here throughout the year,” says Rukalodge’s Managing Director Kimmo Laatta. Rukalodge is an excellent base for mountain bikers, fatbike riders on winter adventures, and gravel cyclists alike.
During the winter season, the free SkiBus of the Ruka area adds even more convenience. The stop is located just a couple of hundred metres away, providing easy access to ski lifts, slopes, services and cross-country tracks. It’s especially handy for families and groups who want to move around without relying on a car.
Accommodation Where Everything Truly Works
The cabins at Rukalodge are furnished in a modern Scandinavian style and carefully designed when it comes to layout and comfort. They feel spacious, cosy and homelike – exactly what a perfect holiday home should feel like. The aim was to ensure that the cabins are comfortable in both summer heat and icy winter conditions. Every cabin is equipped with an air-source heat pump, which keeps the indoor temperature pleasant even during hot spells. In addition, geothermal heating provides gentle, energy-efficient underfloor warmth throughout the winter months.
Larger cabins include two separate bedrooms next to the sauna and bathroom facilities. The idea was inspired by the traditional Finnish lakeside sauna cottage, where an extra room offers more space and privacy. This feature has been especially appreciated by teenagers, grandparents and families travelling together who value quiet spaces within shared holiday living.
The cabins are equipped so that everything you need is always close at hand. Kitchens are spacious and well stocked, pleasing families and food‑loving travellers alike. Each cabin has its own large outdoor storage room. The shared ski waxing room – requested by guests – supports active skiers in winter and transforms into a bike maintenance area in summer.
Electric car drivers have been particularly thankful for the private Mode 2 charging stations. With charging available right at the cabin, the entire holiday can be enjoyed without detours to public chargers.
A New Glass-Roofed “Kota” and Rukalodge’s Own Sledding Hill
One of the newest additions to the Rukalodge grounds is a stunning glass‑roofed “kota” shelter built at guests’ request. It is especially enchanting on winter evenings: the starry sky, the crackling fire and the crisp winter air come together to create a calm and atmospheric setting. Although the kota is still a relatively new feature, it has already become a favourite among guests.
Another highlight for families is Plantinginharju, a natural formation that serves as the area’s very own giant sledding hill. Cabins come with ready‑to‑use sleds and slides, and in the larger cabins you can begin your sledding adventure practically from the terrace. A traditional winter day rarely feels this easy – sledding first, then hot chocolate on the terrace, in the kota or inside the warm cabin.
Lift Tickets in Winter, Ruka Fun Passes in Summer – Extra Value Without the Hassle
Many visitors are pleasantly surprised by how many holiday needs have already been considered in advance. In winter, accommodation includes lift tickets, and in summer, guests receive Ruka Fun Passes that open the door to various summer activities. These perks have received particularly enthusiastic praise – starting your holiday is always easier when everything is ready for you.
One very practical yet important summer benefit also stands out: there are surprisingly few mosquitoes in both Rukalodge and Ruka village. This makes summer holidays exceptionally pleasant compared to many other destinations in Lapland.
Who Is Rukalodge Ideal For?
Rukalodge is an excellent choice for families who appreciate easy activities and a safe environment right outside the cabin door. It is equally suitable for cyclists and active travellers who need good maintenance facilities and trails close by. For those seeking peace and quiet, a modern cabin in the middle of nature offers the perfect escape. Electric car drivers benefit from having their own charging station, ensuring a completely worry-free holiday. Multi‑generation travel groups also enjoy the well-planned layouts and the extra privacy they provide.
Rukalodge is a place that is easy to arrive at – and one that guests naturally want to return to.
