Osuuskauppa Arina is moving forward with the development of a new Break Sokos Hotel in Ruka

Published 3.7.2025

The hotel will be a comprehensive destination featuring accommodation, dining, and wellness services, designed to reflect the natural beauty and experiential spirit of the Ruka region.

On May 12, the Kuusamo City Council approved the zoning plan that allows the construction of the Break Sokos Hotel, and the plan has now gained legal force. The project is now entering the
implementation phase. The hotel will help meet the growing demand for high-quality travel services in the Ruka-Kuusamo area and offer memorable experiences for both Finnish and international guests.

“We are excited to bring this project to life. It will strengthen the vitality of the region, create new jobs, and support the development of tourism and hospitality services,” says Anu Junnikkala-Alho, CFO of Osuuskauppa Arina.

“The new Break Sokos Hotel will expand the range of accommodation and restaurant options
available in Ruka. We are committed to delivering high-quality services and working closely with
local partners to enhance the destination’s appeal,” adds Ulla Peltoniemi, Director of Travel and
Hospitality at Osuuskauppa Arina.

The project has progressed in close and constructive cooperation with the City of Kuusamo, ensuring alignment with local development goals and infrastructure planning.

Once completed, the hotel and restaurant complex will provide year-round employment for
approximately 50 professionals and over 100 during peak seasons. The construction phase is
expected to generate around 250 person-years of employment.

The hotel is designed by Oulu-based PAVE Architects, with interior design by Vertti & Co. The main contractor is Hartela Pohjois-Suomi Oy, and ARE Oy will be responsible for building techno.
