Film the Hill DIY Movie Night

Film the Hill DIY movie night will be celebrated at Ruka with freestyle skiing movies at Restaurant Piste on October 2, 2026, from 6 PM to 10 PM. You can apply to join with your own project or simply arrive to watch and vote for the best clip of the season.

DIY (Do It Yourself) means making things happen with your own strength and available resources – without big budgets, relying on your own creativity, passion, and burning desire to bring your vision to life. DIY Movie Night is a celebration of this independent creation. We highlight skiing and snowboarding films made by up-and-coming riders and filmmakers who are paving their way in the industry on their own terms.

This year, we will award the best Freestyle project with a €1,000 cash prize. The prize is granted as production support for the winner's next film project.

You can apply with your project by September 18 at 23:59. The jury will select the finalists from all applied projects, and their movies will be shown at the DIY Movie Night on October 2 at Piste Restaurant. The audience present at the DIY Movie Night will vote for the winners.

Receiving the award

The prize won is production support to help kick-start the next film project. Although it is known that the support is not a giant budget, it is a starting point—and with the right planning, great things are possible.
To keep everything fair and transparent, a clear plan of how the money will be used in the project is requested—this ensures that the support truly serves future creative work. For example, it can be used for shooting trip expenses, purchasing a new camera lens, or investing in editing software.
Information regarding when the new project will start is appreciated so everything can be scheduled around it. If the project is delayed, no worries—flexibility is provided.
Full rights to the material are retained—it is the creator's work. The only request is to include the Ruka logo in the new project.

Competition rules

The application period is from August 28 to September 18 at 23:59.
The jury will pre-screen and select the finalist projects from the applications, which will be shown at the DIY movie night on October 2, 2026, at Restaurant Piste. At the event, the finalists will get to say a few words about their film in connection with the screening.
The audience present will vote for the winners. The three best movies will be awarded, with the winner receiving a production grant of 1,000 euros.
