The show will take place on the ice of Kaltiolampi, at the base of the Front Slopes. Before the midnight performance, Ruka Ski School will present a New Year’s light ski show starting at 11:55 PM. Welcome to celebrate the arrival of New Year 2026 with us!
The Water Screen show replaces the traditional fireworks display previously organized by Ruka Ski Resort at Kaltiolampi.
There are several positive reasons for moving away from fireworks: the water show is quieter and therefore more enjoyable for audiences of all ages. It is also a more environmentally friendly option, as it produces no waste or smoke and involves none of the safety risks associated with fireworks. In addition, fireworks can frighten animals, which is another reason for discontinuing their use.
Ruka Ski Resort is following in the footsteps of its sister resort Pyhä, where fireworks were discontinued several years ago. Alternative ways of celebrating have been well received by guests.
Please note that the use of fireworks is prohibited within the ski resort area – including on the slopes. The aim is to protect the surrounding nature and wildlife and to prevent littering. We ask all guests to follow these guidelines to ensure shared safety and comfort.
If you choose to use your own fireworks, this requires special care and strict adherence to safety instructions. A fenced area at the southern end of Kaltiolampi is designated for the use of personal fireworks. Fireworks may be used between 6:00 PM on December 31 and 2:00 AM on January 1.
