Eurowings opens flights from Düsseldorf to Kuusamo for winter 2023-2024

There will be one weekly flight on Sundays from mid-January to mid-March.

"Opening a new flight connection is an important response to increased demand. Germany has become one of Ruka-Kuusamo's most important market areas with its 20,000 annual overnight stays", says Mats Lindfors, CEO of Ruka-Kuusamo Tourist Association.

Overnight stays by Germans continued to grow strongly during winter 2022-2023. Germans are particularly interested in sauna experiences, winter nature experiences and the northern lights in Ruka-Kuusamo.

Eurowings' new route and its parent company Lufthansa's route from Frankfurt to Kuusamo strengthen flight connections from Germany to Kuusamo. The Lufthansa route has been flown since 2017.

The departure city of the new scheduled flight, Düsseldorf, is the capital of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Düsseldorf has more than 600,000 inhabitants and its metropolitan area has nearly 3 million inhabitants. The area of influence of the Düsseldorf airport includes almost 20 million people in large German cities such as Dortmund, Essen, Cologne and Bonn, as well as in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

Kuusamo airport's direct scheduled flights to Europe also offer Kuusamo residents an easy way to travel abroad. Eurowings and Lufthansa flights transport holidaymakers from abroad to Germany in a few hours and also to the rest of the world with excellent connections.

"Kuusamo's tourism is internationalizing at a brisk pace, and the opening of scheduled flights brings great new opportunities in addition to several existing charter flights", says Lindfors.
