International Tourism Back On The Path To Growth

Aiming for the sustainable growth of international tourism

This project brings all the tourist regions served by the Kuusamo Airport together to collaborate on increasing the number of passengers and flights as well as to implement the joint marketing of a wider area. Co-operation of tourist regions will make it possible for a large area to be distinguished from other tourist regions especially by foregrounding the national parks of the area.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand of international tourism has dried up, and the growth of domestic demand is not sufficient to compensate the drop. In tourist regions, there is a significant number of companies whose entire turnover is mainly based on international tourism. It is vital for the regional economy and tourism employment that international tourism be brought back to normal as soon as possible and then back on the path to growth.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, a new market will open where companies compete on the attention of tourists, and safety will be emphasized on the Finnish tourism export market even more than before. The project International Tourism Back On The Path To Growth will strive to restore accessibility to pre-COVID-19 crisis level and further its growth in the future “new normal” health security environment.

The implementation period of this project is 1.5.2021-31.12.2022. The project target group is the tourism companies of the region, and the actors who operate regular and charter flights in Kuusamo Airport. The indirect target group of the project comprises international tourists, other service sector companies, and the municipalities in the region.
