Olli PA is a pioneer of melodic rap from Oulu and an export-worthy artist who has brought Oulu’s subculture to national attention over the past two decades.
In 2008, Olli PA released his debut solo album, *Syke*, independently. The record introduced a young rapper from Oulu capable of blending a laid-back attitude with reflections on painful subjects. The track "33 hittaalla ku vinyyli" garnered particular attention; winning YleX’s "PipeKellari" demo competition propelled Olli PA onto festival stages early in his career.
Olli PA has maintained a prolific output, releasing over ten albums with various groups (such as Funksons and OPP) and collaborating with numerous artists (including Pyhimys, Asa, Teflon Brothers, and Stepa), creating songs that have broken out of Oulu to reach audiences across Finland.
His album *Oman pihan porukasta* has garnered national attention and is nearing gold record status. Singles from the album, such as "Oman pihan porukasta" and "Paperikuppeja," have received extensive airplay.
Having emerged from the Oulu neighborhoods of Kaukovainio, Meri-Toppila, and Tuira, Olli PA has also built a career in special education and politics. His lyrics reflect a desire to depict the multifaceted nature of life and a need to highlight the lives, mindsets, and challenges of those at risk of social exclusion. His songs address themes ranging from joy, success, and perseverance to mental health struggles and substance abuse issues. There is a real buzz around the artist this year: Olli PA’s latest full-length album, *TIKAPUITA JA KALTEREITA*, is an ambitious work that delves into the stony heart of Oulu, telling stories that usually go unheard at street level. This socially conscious album is released by 3rd Rail Music, a legendary label with decades of experience in the industry.
