During Ruka’s ski season opening weekend on 2–3 October 2026, Restaurant Zone will once again host Riistapeijaiset, a celebration of wild food and northern flavours. Rooted in Finnish traditions, the event brings them into the present day through tasting, learning, cooking and sharing experiences together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Riistapeijaiset was originally created to present the Finnish peijaiset tradition in a new and approachable way. The idea is to explore northern ingredients and cooking methods, enjoy delicious flavours, and spend time in good company.
The weekend programme includes a fish preparation show, hands-on workshops, ingredient tastings, and various cooking demonstrations. Long-time culinary “conductor” Chef Matti Hurttia will once again lead the event, joined by Markku Käyhty, Head Chef of Rukapalvelu.
Throughout the weekend, guests can watch, learn, taste and take part themselves. We want to showcase the richness of Finnish seasonal ingredients, game, fish and wild foods – and demonstrate how easily they can be incorporated into everyday home cooking.
At its heart, the peijaiset tradition has always been about gathering around a shared table and appreciating the gifts of nature. The same spirit lives on at Riistapeijaiset today, reimagined as a modern and immersive culinary experience.
Come and be inspired as you discover how nature’s finest ingredients can be transformed into true works of art on a plate.
The full programme will be announced soon.
