The world’s northernmost mountain coaster in Ruka is attracting international attention. During its first six months of operation, more than 50,000 visitors have ridden the Ruka Coaster. Videos shared on social media by well-known international influencers have garnered tens of millions of views worldwide.
“The mountain coaster has had a flying start with us. This is the first winter holiday week for the Ruka Coaster, and it’s shaping up to be a hit during the ski holiday season. Riding a mountain coaster in snowy conditions is a unique experience globally. It’s great to see that international visitors have also discovered the Ruka Coaster,” says Antti Turunen, Marketing Director of Ruka Ski Resort ltd.
The Ruka Coaster opened in July. After the summer season, it was open during the autumn holiday and has been operating again from Independence Day onward for the winter season.
During its first six months, more than 50,000 riders have experienced the Ruka Coaster. The world’s northernmost mountain coaster has also received significant international attention.
“On Ruka Ski Resort's own social media channels, a reel of the Ruka Coaster’s winter ride in sunny weather has become our most viewed content of all time. It gathered 3.6 million views worldwide in just ten days,” Turunen says.
Several Finnish and international social media influencers have shared videos and photos from the mountain coaster. Among them, Australian world-class mogul skier Jakara Anthony visited Ruka earlier this year for training and shared a video of her ride on the Ruka Coaster.
“Jakara Anthony’s reel has already received over 30 million views, 1.7 million likes, and 9,000 comments. This shows just how exceptional the winter mountain coaster experience is,” Turunen says.
Mountain coasters originally come from the Alps. The first alpine coaster was opened in Austria in 1996. Since then, the German coaster company Wiegand has made its tracks popular attractions in mountain destinations, and they are now operated in more than 300 locations worldwide.
Although the Ruka Coaster is designed for winter use, extremely cold temperatures may cause operational restrictions. Visitors are advised to check the latest opening information on Ruka’s website before heading out.
