Winter in Ruka
The winter season in Ruka is one of the longest in Europe. It starts in October and lasts for almost nine months until June. The period from November through April is the best time for mountain skiing and snowshoe walking. In early December tourists can enjoy snowmobile, husky and reindeer safaris, visits to the reindeer farm and much more. The skiing and safari season lasts until March or April, depending on snow conditions. Winter activities include a visit to Santa Claus’ residence in Kuusamo. Although we sometimes call him Father Christmas, Santa is at home all the year round and will be pleased to see you in the summertime as well!
