What is atimo?
In the old times the people in Kuusamo used to visit relatives and friends once or twice a year. This trips were called atimo. Usually the participants were older people, only occasionally kids would be included. The trips were made by a sledge pulled by horses during the winter and by row boat or by foot during the summer. The trips were usually long, at least two to four days. The guests were welcomed and well treated, sleeping in the best bedroom and eating the best delicacies the house could offer.
