All about Kuusamo!
Tourist Centre Karhuntassu in the town of Kuusamo is worth visiting throughout the year!
Tourist Centre Karhuntassu ("Bears Paw") is located at the road junction heading to Oulu and Kajaani (E65 and 20) - therefore it is easy to find. Under the same roof are located Kuusamo Info, Metsähallitus infopoint Karhuntassu, Hannu Hautala Nature Photo Centre and café.
Outside the Karhuntassu building there are information boards with maps of the Kuusamo area. The parking lot is spacious and there is a playground for children in the backyard. There is also a monument erected in honour of the 3rd Army Group in the war btw. 1941 and 1944. The entrance and one of the customer lavatories is suitable for handicapped people using a wheelchair.
The Kuusamo Info gives information about places of interest, time-tables, events, opening hours, nature sights and routes as well as tourist services in the area. There are different brochures available about Kuusamo/Ruka and the neighbour municipalities and towns. We also give information about various things to do in different seasons. Fishing licences are available/for sale.
At spring 2007 there was opened A Nature Photo Centre "In Hannu's Footsteps" which consists of photography by nature photographer Mr. Hannu Hautala. You can also enjoy a cup of coffee or other refreshments in the Nature Photo Café.
